Exhibition - Art 4 Life

at Pomo Arts Centre

March 13 - May 4. 2025

My installation Kaleidoscope is currently on display in the Art 4 Life Exhibition at Pomo Arts Centre in Port Moody.

Kaleidoscope is an immersive installation that consists of forty-one 8” wooden panel assemblages that have been created using acrylic paint and various found objects. Each panel has a completely different pattern, reminiscent of the infinite patterning possibilities of a kaleidoscope.

This installation was made during the height of the Covid-19 lockdown. Over the course of more than one year I sat at my desk in my living room and worked on this project between homeschooling my children and caring for the domesting needs of my family. This work was my escape and comfort during an extremely difficult time. Often, my two children would sit on the other side of my desk and create art with me.

Bright colours, patterns, small shiny objects, glitter, beads, and sequins represent nostalgia and memory for me. When I was a child, I would remove the rhinestones and beads from old, broken jewellery and keep them in treasured collections. Creating patterns gives me a sense of control in a world where things seem out of order and chaotic. This installation is a visual representation of my need to self-soothe during a time of uncertainty and discomfort. The result is a celebratory explosion of creativity and joy.
